And the Wall Begins...

NORTH GREAT WALL-- Qin Shi Huang, Emperor of China, declared a wall to be built to protect China from the Mongols. Qin is making people who irritated him, scholars, criminals, peasants, and captured enemies work on the Great Wall. Qin thinks there will be around 3,000 people in the outcome that will work on the wall in the end. Just remember, its only the 21st century BC and people could be farming or making silk instead.

A few weeks ago the China was invaded from the Northern Boarders of China by Mongolians. The reason to invade is to expand their territory before it is to late to take over China and gain any riches that the Chinese had to share with them. Mongolia was short on food because Mongolia was made up mostly of deserts. But after the invasion they gained more food, because China has rivers, like the Yangtze River which provides water, and the shores contained good soil for farming.

Bao Yu Chun, a Scholar, thinks that building the wall will make China even stronger. She thinks that if China builds a wall it will make the Mongolians travel further to try and invade, and by the time they are close to invading someone in China will see them and get the soldiers ready to fight. She says she is willing to help work on the wall but if she had a choice she would want to be a stone mender.

Chang Chun, a man who is going to be forced to work on the wall, thinks the wall isn’t going to help at all. He thinks that the Mongols are still going to invade. He has a feeling that the wall isn’t going to keep them safe. He feels that since the Mongolians already invaded once they will think they have more power then they really do and try just as hard to invade again. “Qin is forcing people to work on the wall. They have no choice, its like they are under a spell. Qin seems to think this wall will keep the Chinese in China and the Mongols out.” says Chang Chun.
