The Great Wall: a Big Mistake?
Emperor
Qin wishes for protection. The Mongolians have recently invaded China
from the Northern Border. Emperor Qin has come up with an idea to build a
Wall. Not just any wall, but the Great Wall. Qin thinks the wall will
protect China from multiple enemies.
The
Wall should not be built. If the wall is built it is not definite that
no enemies will be able to invade. There will still be a chance that
enemies will find a way to get into China.
With
this wall being built almost everyone will be forced to work on it. Qin
will just stand there while everyone else works as hard as they can
just for protection. The cost of protection is not worth it. The
building of the wall takes away more lives than it saves. People are
dying because of lack of food, and also they are dying because of the
forced labor they must do.
In order to get people to work on the wall they are forced to leave their family. Who would want to leave their family until the wall is built? To leave your family for that long would maybe even mean never seeing them again.
There are a few good things that the wall does, including provide more jobs. If there are more jobs then fewer people will have to be farmers. Although jobs on the wall may not be the greatest they are better then not having a job. Thinking about how many jobs the wall creates makes you think of all the people who will lose them when the wall is done being built.
With the wall China would be more protected so there would be no need for as many soldiers as China has now. Without the need for as many soldiers many people would loose jobs.
